Prayer of the Week:
Prayer for peace: God of peace and justice, we pray for all the people living in the uncertainty of war. We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons. We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them. We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions. Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear, that you would hold and protect them. We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Amen.

I am going to hand it over to the students at this point and have them tell you a few of the things they have been learning or are eager to share with you.

Adi - This term around 3 weeks ago we got back from Roses Gap Camp. We really enjoyed the experience but we never got to tell the staff how much we enjoyed it, so we have written letters to the Roses Gap staff to tell them how much we loved the camp, food and activities. Alongside writing to the camp we have learnt how to write letters, send them and watch a video of a girl who explained how the mail factory works and how they deliver it.
Beverly -This term we have been writing letters to Roses Gap Camp which we went to a few weeks ago.We got to watch a slideshow and a video of how the factory and mail posting works. There were a lot of machines and ways to post a letter. We have learnt to use the letter structure and how to place it in our letters. We could tell the Roses Gap staff what we liked and could tell them about our favourite activity. We learnt how to write the address/PO Box. It's been fun to learn about writing a letter and posting it.
Bill - We wrote a letter to the Roses Gap Staff to say thanks to them for the amazing time we all had. We had a duck hunt, we had to find our own duck with our name on it but it was nighttime and tricky. We had so much fun.

Language program 2024.
Currently our language program is Chinese which all students are taught. Under legislation (the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 Vic) all Victorian government and non-government schools are required to provide a language program for students from Foundation to Year 10.
We are in the process of exploring different language options for 2024. When implementing a language program in schools, it’s essential to consider factors like students age, teaching methodology and the resources available. Additionally, it’s important to make language learning engaging and relevant to the students’ lives, as this can enhance their motivation and success in language acquisition. We are currently exploring Teachers as Co-learners (TCL) which is a contemporary pedagogical approach underpinned by recent research into what we know works in Victorian Catholic Schools. In a TCL approach all teachers and students are learners of the school’s target language and time is allocated every day to ensure frequent exposure to, and learning of, both the target language and English.
Next week we will send out a survey regarding our language program for 2024. The survey is a short survey and will take a minimal amount of time to complete. At St Patrick’s we acknowledge there needs to be a collaborative effort between schools and families that provides the best possible educational outcomes for students. We would appreciate your support in completing the survey.
Regional Athletics:
Some of our students competed at the recent Greater Western Region athletics carnival in Ballarat. All students should be extremley proud of making it to this level of competition and representing St Patricks on the day. Thank you to Mr Moloney for organising the students, transporting them and getting some photos on the day, the parents for cheering and our students for having a go.
Uniform:
At St Patrick’s School wearing the correct school uniform and the overall appearance of our students is an important part of school life. We believe that the wearing of the St Patrick’s school uniform brings with it many benefits. These include the promotion of a child’s self respect, a sense of belonging to a school community and a sense of school pride.
A few reminders:
Jewellery - plain sleepers/a single small stud or a suitable religious cross on a necklace is acceptable.
Makeup - the wearing of makeup is unacceptable
Hair ties - these need to be a colour or colours of the school uniform - blue/green/gold
Nail polish - coloured nail polish/acrylics are unacceptable
Socks - Boys grey only, Girls white only
We thank you for your support.

This term Social Justice will finalise working on The Great Book Swap in support for Indigenous Literacy. The idea is that our school would donate any quality unwanted children’s books, and Social justice will then conduct a Book swap where students are able to purchase any of these donated books for a gold coin donation. All money raised will be donated to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. *Please send any donated books (in great condition) into school, thanks to those who have already donated.

Living in Faith:
Non Perishable food drive:
The Stawell Inter Church Council welfare Cottage is struggling to keep up with the demand for help and they are seeking grocery donations to help them help those in need. They are particularly looking for donations of canned items like stew, soup, tuna, vegetables, spaghetti meat sauce, soaps, toothbrushes, shampoo, clothes washing powder and dishwashing liquid. We realise there is significant extra pressure on our families with cost of living prices, however if you feel able to, could you please buy an extra item or two when you go grocery shopping. Donation tubs will be in each classroom and we will present our donations to Mary-Rita Thomas (St Vincent de Paul rep) at assembly and put it in the donations bin in the church. There are many in our town and region who are having a hard time making ends meet.
Fundraising: From next week (Friday 6th October) each Friday till the end of Term our MiniVinnies group will be selling Zooper Doopers for $1.00each at lunch time under the shade sails. The money raised will go towards Stawell Inter church Council Welfare Centre and St Vincent de Paul Sponsor a student program.
As always we thank our St Patrick’s community for your support.
Why do we at St Patrick’s raise money for the poor?
Catholic schools participate in the Church’s mission “to bring the Good News to the poor” (Luke 4:18). In partnership with parents, parishes and other agencies within the Church and the broader community, Catholic schools are called to give witness to a faith which does justice with love. All have a responsibility to read the signs of the times and to respond with love and compassion, ever seeking to protect human dignity and serve the common good. The Catholic Church teaches that the poor represent those who are marginalised in society. Jesus himself taught the importance of helping those who are poor and need help.
