Prayer of the Week:
A prayer for families.
God, Our Father, loving and merciful, bring together and keep all families in perfect unity of love and mutual support.
Instill in each member the spirit of understanding and affection for each other.
Keep quarrels and bitterness far from them, and for their occasional failures instill forgiveness and peace.
Instill in children self-respect that they may respect others and grow in mature independence.
May the mutual affection and respect of families be a sign of life here and hereafter, through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
Amen.
Principal's Report:
Welcome,
School Sports
We were truly blessed with a perfect day on Monday for our Athletics Carnival. It was wonderful to see so many families at North Park cheering on the students. I was very proud of the way in which the students participated in the activities. Everyone tried their best and encouraged others. Congratulations to Joesph House for being the overall winners on the day.
A big thank you to all the parent volunteers who helped run activities, timed, kept scores, or one of the other hundred jobs that need to be done. It was great to have some ex-St Pat’s students from both Marian College and Stawell Secondary College also on hand to help out. An extra big thank you to the Parents and Friends members for all their hard work in the kitchen to ensure everyone was well taken care of. I also need to acknowledge all the extra hours that Mr. Moloney has put in to ensure that the day runs so smoothly.
Foundation Dinner
On Wednesday night our Foundation students and families joined staff for a relaxed dinner and information night. We had hoped to run this event in Term One but this was not possible due to COVID restrictions at the time. It was great for our families to become more familiar with each other and the school staff.
2023 Enrolments and Open Day
Our enrolments for the Foundation class of 2023 are now officially open. It is great that a number of families have already expressed interest. If you or someone you know has a child starting school in 2023 please contact the school office for more information.
The school will be holding an open morning on Tuesday, May 24th at 9 am. This will provide prospective families with a chance to see the school in action and have any questions they may have answered. The school is also offering private tours of the school for families who are unable to attend the open morning.
COVID Update
Unfortunately, there is still a few active Covid-19 cases in our school community. I would like to thank everyone for doing everything possible to limit the spread. I also hope that all those affected recover quickly. A reminder that if a student or family member tests positive for Covid-19, it is still a requirement to inform the school. This allows the school to inform the school community when someone who has been onsite during their possible infectious period tests positive to Covid-19.
With Faith in our Future

The benefits:
Understanding meditation
Meditation has been practised for thousands of years. Meditation originally was meant to help deepen understanding of the sacred and mystical forces of life. These days, meditation is commonly used for relaxation and stress reduction.
Meditation is considered a type of mind-body complementary medicine. Meditation can produce a deep state of relaxation and a tranquil mind.
During meditation, you focus your attention and eliminate the stream of jumbled thoughts that may be crowding your mind and causing stress. This process may result in enhanced physical and emotional well-being.
Benefits of meditation
Meditation can give you a sense of calm, peace and balance that can benefit both your emotional well-being and your overall health. You can also use it to relax and cope with stress by refocusing your attention on something calming. Meditation can help you learn to stay centred and keep inner peace.
The benefits don't end when your meditation session ends. Meditation can help carry you more calmly through your day and meditation may help you manage symptoms of certain medical conditions.
Meditation and emotional and physical well-being
When you meditate, you may clear away the information overload that builds up every day and contributes to your stress.
The emotional and physical benefits of meditation can include:
- Gaining a new perspective on stressful situations
- Building skills to manage your stress
- Increasing self-awareness
- Focusing on the present
- Reducing negative emotions
- Increasing imagination and creativity
- Increasing patience and tolerance
- Lowering resting heart rate
- Lowering resting blood pressure
- Improving sleep quality
Use the above link to do some guided meditation with your child/ren.
Thank you.

Middle 3/4H News:
We’ve had a wonderful start to term 2 in Middle 3/4H. All the students have settled in well and have been focused on improving and doing their best.
In Reading, we have started working with the class novel, Charlotte’s Web. We have made predictions and connections about the text as well as identifying the character traits of Wilbur and Fern.
In Writing, we have been learning how to write a persuasive text: trying to convince a teacher or parent for a new pet. It has been fantastic to see the use of emotive language and correct TEEL paragraph structure - I am very close to getting 3/4H a class pet!!
In Grade 3 Maths, we have been learning about the different strategies for adding 3 digit numbers including: the split strategy, jump strategy and the compensation strategy. Students have also been working on their fast addition facts to assist with their speed and accuracy when solving problems.
Well done to the Grade 3 students for completing their first NAPLAN tests. It has been wonderful to witness their determination when completing the variety of tests. They should be very proud of their hard work and efforts this week.
Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
Re: Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about support provided to students with disabilities. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
- year of schooling
- category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
- level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
This information assists schools to:
- formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
- consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
- develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disabilities.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on students and your students will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).
Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).
If you have any questions about the NCCD, please do not hesitate in contacting me at school on 53582493 or via email kryan@spstawell.catholic.edu.au

Naplan - Grades 3 & 5 10th - 13th May, 2022.
Our Year 3 & 5 students are to be commended on the positive way they have approached their NAPLAN testing this week. If you are the parent of a student in Years 3 or 5, you will receive an individual report in August on your child’s results for the tests they have sat. These tests in key areas of literacy and numeracy provide parents and educators with a snapshot of how students are progressing- individually, as part of our school community and nationally. The national standards are those that have been agreed upon by all state and territory governments. The results of the tests provide diagnostic information for parents/carers and teachers about the children's performance in Literacy and Numeracy. This information can be used to support teaching and learning programs and improve student achievement.
Please note that NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process and that it does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers throughout the year about student performance.
Living in Faith:

School Sport Victoria and Golf Australia are proud to inform schools that the SSV Primary Golf Tournament is to be held at the Stawell Golf Course on Friday 21st October 2022.
This is a perfect opportunity for students to participate in a shortened 9-hole course to represent their school. No experience or equipment is necessary. Equipment can be borrowed on the day. The entries are open to students in year levels 3 through to 6 enrolled at a School Sport Victoria member school.
I have attached a file to the email outlining all the details about the event.
